Jan Fiedler,
Senior Post Doctoral Researcher,
Medical School Hannover
Jan Fiedler is a Post Doctoral Researcher at the Institute of Molecular and Translational Therapeutic Strategies (IMTTS) at Hannover Medical School. Being a biochemist, he worked on mitochondrial morphology and morphogenesis before he joined the group of Professor Thomas Thum. Cardiovascular research began with a focus on circulating angiogenic cells and the role of microRNAs in cardiac disease. Thus, his main focus of research is investigating basic signalling mechanisms of cardiac remodelling and its different mediators. Studying the role of microRNAs during myocardial infarction, he could identify an anti-angiogenic microRNA-24 pathway that may be translated into a relevant therapeutic setting. Besides the role of microRNAs in translational cardiovascular research, Jan Fiedler also investigates the potential of microRNAs for somatic cell reproramming offering an opportunity to generate different cardiovascular cells.
