Anthony Leung's Biography



Anthony Leung, Assistant Professor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Anthony Leung received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry in the University of Oxford and his PhD in the University of Dundee, United Kingdom. He started his work on microRNA as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Phillip Sharp at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he investigated where microRNA function and localization during stress. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and affiliate faculty in the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine in the Johns Hopkins University.

We analyzed genome-wide binding sites of Ago2 in wild-type mouse embryonic stem cells and derivatives that lack mature microRNAs, resulting in a highly validated set of microRNA targets. Unexpectedly, we also identified a motif associated with Ago2 independent of microRNAs.
