Gary Schroth,
Vice President and Distinguished Scientist,

Dr. Schroth is currently a Vice President and Distinguished Scientist at Illumina in San Diego, where he directs the Core Applications Group in Product Development. He obtained his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California at Davis. Before joining Illumina he held R&D positions at Solexa, Applied Biosystems, Genelabs Technologies, and Gen-Probe. In his research, Dr. Schroth has used a variety of genomic tools including next-generation sequencing (NGS), microarrays, and RT-PCR to analyze gene structure, expression and regulation. Today his main research interests are in the use of NGS to study gene structure and expression, epigenetics, and cancer genomics. Over the course of his career Dr. Schroth has published over 90 peer reviewed research papers and holds 17 U.S. patents.
