Gabor Foldes's Biography



Gabor Foldes, Research Associate, Imperial College London

Dr Gabor Foldes is a Reader in Cardiology at the Heart and Vascular Center, Semmelweis University, Hungary and leader of the human pluripotent stem cell team at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. After obtaining his PhD in 2002, he trained in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He has held longer visiting positions at Harvard Medical School Massachusetts General Hospital and University of Oulu. Since October 2007, he has been working at Imperial College London. Dr Foldes’ research interests are in particular the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular remodelling. In addition he has a long-standing interest in cardiac regeneration and cardiovascular derivatives of pluripotent stem cells. He is invited speaker at many cardiovascular and stem cell meetings and author, reviewer or editor for internationally recognised cell journals. His recent academic and clinical awards include the Cellome Award, the Novartis Foundation Award, and the British Heart Foundation Reflections of Research Award.

The goal of our project is to better identify and grow the optimal endothelial populations following their generation from human pluripotent stem cell cultures. The production of adequate cells is critical for the success of cell-based drug discovery in ischemic disease.
