Amanda Cobos-Correa's Biography

Amanda Cobos-Correa, Lab Head Screening Sciences, Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research

Dr. Amanda Cobos-Correa is Lab Head in the Integrated Target and Lead Discovery group at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR). Her lab works on the development and miniaturization of cellular assays and their application to lead discovery. They work with a broad range of cellular systems, such as induced-pluripotent stem cells; and technologies, such as fluorescent labeling of molecules in vivo and high content imaging. Dr. Cobos-Correa coursed her studies in Chemistry at the University of Greenwich in London and the University Complutense in Madrid where she graduated in 2005. She gathered experience in protein sciences working at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the Biochemie Zentrum in Heidelberg. She received her PhD in 2009 from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the University of Heidelberg for her work in the field of Chemical Biology and the development of fluorescent tools to detect proteolytic activity in samples from cystic fibrosis patients by imaging. As Postdoctoral Fellow at the Molecular Medicine Partnership Unit and EMBL, she worked in the development of assays for the early detection of lung emphysema and the synthesis of prodrugs for disease-related proteases.

In my talk I will present the large-scale generation of neuronal progenitors derived from Fragile X patients and their use to develop a high-content imaging assay to run a HTS to identify compounds counteracting the epigenetic gene silencing in Fragile X syndrome.
