Jey Jeyakumar, Principal Scientist & Group Leader, Plasticell & Progenitor Therapeutics

Dr JeyJeyakumar is Principal Scientist & Group Leader at Plasticell/Progenitor Therapeutics Ltd.
During his 9 years at Plasticell, Dr Jeyakumar has played a key role in developing Plasticell’s stem cells platform technologies; CombiCult® and ProScreen™, and has been responsible for successfully applying these technologies across a number of discovery programs. He manages both internal R&D and external collaborative projects on the aspects of stem cell differentiation, compound screening, target discovery and biomarker research, including tools and technologies for use in cell and gene therapy applications. Before joining Plasticell in 2008, Dr Jeyakumar was a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. He has an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Sheffield University (1995) and a D.Phil from Oxford (2000). For his doctoral thesis, he worked on developing pharmacotherapies for lysosomal storage disorders (LSD). He undertook post-doctoral research at the Harvard Medical School exploring neural stem cells for the treatment of neurodegenerative metabolic disorders.
