Jan-Willem Schoonen's Biography

Jan-Willem Schoonen, Research Associate, Leiden University

After obtaining a BSc. in Analytical Chemistry, Jan-Willem worked two years as a technical gaschromatography specialist at Interscience, Breda (2001 – 2003). At the University of Leiden (Department of Analytical Biosciences), he obtained his MSc. after researching “Rapid prototyping techniques for microfluidic chips” and “Development of a stacked ring electrode ion funnel to increase MS sensitivity” (2006). Hereafter he worked on the design and use of microfluidic capillary electrophoresis chips with laser induced fluorescence detection of amino acids for the detection of extraterrestrial life on Mars. In July 2008 he started his PhD on developing a machine vision controlled solvent removal interface to enhance multidimensional liquid chromatography separations at the Netherlands Metabolomics Centre, University of Leiden.
