Bhavneet Bhinder's Biography

Bhavneet Bhinder, Bioinformatics Engineer, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Bhavneet Bhinder obtained her BSc in biotechnology from Amity Institute of Biotechnology (India), and completed her MS in bioinformatics from Georgia Institute of Technology (USA) in 2008. Since joining the HTS Core Facility in 2009, Bhavneet has been working as a computational analyst developing tools and managing large sets of screening data. She has contributed to the development of a set of tools querying RNAi screening data for off-target effects, due to miRNA, 3’UTR, or others, enabling an annotated hit nomination for experimental confirmation studies.

RNAi screening will soon be celebrating 15 years of trials and tribulations; this occasion will be marked by an achievement of up to ~ 600 publications reporting on its use. Like many new technologies before it, it is plagued by controversy surrounding the growing evidence of disparate hit lists, dismal gene correlation at inter-screen level, and the lack of reproducibility. I will review the current landscape and will discuss simple ways to help remedy these concerns.
