Christian Reis,
Research Associate,
Fraunhofer IPA
Christian Reis finished his studies on Biotechnology at the University of Stuttgart and Harvard Medical School in Boston back in 2007 with «summa cum laude». His main subjects were Biochemical Engineering, Mathematical Modelling of Enzyme Kinetics and Protein Analysis. In January 2008 he started working for the Fraunhofer Society at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation as a Biotechnology Engineer. He was involved in process development and device construction for different lab automation solutions like cell and tissue factories as well as automated protein and nucleic acid analysis systems. In 2011 he became Head of Bioprocess Engineering. Since then, he specialized in the design and manufacturing of automated magnetic bead systems for purification and analysis processes. He mostly focusses on mathematical modelling of magnetic bead movements in fluids and design of automated assays on beads. In June 2011 he was strongly involved in the foundation of the Fraunhofer Project Group for Automation in Medicine and Biotechnology. Since 2012 he is vice head of this department.
