Lianette Rivera's Biography



Lianette Rivera, Researcher, University of Michigan

Lianette Rivera-Báez graduated summa cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Biotechnology. She received her Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2014. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering in Prof. Sunitha Nagrath’s lab. As an NSF-GFRP fellow, her research focuses on the development of label free microfluidic technologies that target the enrichment, expansion, and characterization of circulating tumor cells.

Using a label free microfluidic technology, the Labyrinth, the first ever pancreatic CTC culture was achieved. Multiple characterization studies proved that these patient derived CTC cultures could be used for investigating personalized therapy avenues for cancer patients.
