Elena Salvaterra is a Jurist Doctor and PhD in Philosophy of Law with an international expertise in ethics and law of biobanking. She worked several years at the Department of Philosophy of Law of the University of Milan (Italy), where she conducted research on ethical and regulatory aspects related to health care decisions (ranging from informed consent to living wills), end of life decisions, competence to consent and ethical aspects in pharmacology. Then she worked at the Biological Research Center of the Polyclinic University Hospital of Milan, where she coordinated empirical research on ethical and regulatory aspects of human biobanks, including therapeutic and research collections. Since the 2009, she works at the Research Unit of Bioethics of the Scientific Institute “Medea”, which is specialised in neurological pediatric diseases. She is the PI of a project related to ELSI of pediatric biobanking in Europe and collaborates to projects concerning ethical aspects associated with neurological disorders. She is author of several peer reviewed papers. She took part as invited speaker to national and international conferences on biobanks.
