Natasha Sosanya,
Staff Scientist,
USAISR
Dr. Natasha Sosanya is currently a Staff Scientist at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) where she utilizes several animal models of injury to (1) study the relationship between stress and pain, (2) elucidate potential pain biomarkers, (3) explore potential drug targets that function to reduce injury-induced pain and (4) test the efficacy and safety of potential pain therapeutics. She developed and completed the first biomarker studies within the USAISR Battlefield Pain Management group which has led to several exciting follow-up studies. She has presented her research findings at several internationally known conferences, including the International Society of Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) and Society for Neuroscience (SFN) annual meetings. She is currently a scientist lead of a diverse interdisciplinary team of skilled technicians and post-doctoral fellows.
She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) where she completed an Honor’s Thesis at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio (UTHSCSA). She obtained her PhD in Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Austin where she determined how specific RNA Binding Factors (such as microRNAs) regulate ion channel expression in normal and disease states. Publications from her graduate and postdoctoral studies have reached a total of 100 citations. She is currently applying her years of graduate and post-doctoral training in neuroscience, pain, and molecular techniques to elucidate and study the underlying causes of pain and the best potential treatment options.
