Jamie Almeida's Biography

Jamie Almeida, Microbiologist, National Institute of Standards and Technology

Jamie Almeida received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Arizona State University and a Master of Science in Biotechnology with a concentration in Biodefense from The Johns Hopkins University.  She has worked at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for the past 7 years in the Biochemical Science Division.  Her previous work includes the development of PCR based assays to detect various biothreat agents, inactivation/disinfection of biothreat agents using chlorine and monochloramine in the presence and absence of pipe biofilms, and the development of a rapid bioassay for ricin toxin using Vero cells expressing enhanced green fluorescent protein.  Currently her work focuses on developing PCR multiplex assays based on short tandem repeat markers for cell line authentication of mouse and African green monkey cell lines.
