Jaap M. Middeldorp, Ph.D. is professor and PI at VU University medical center, Dept. Pathology in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, heading the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) research team (http://www.vumc.nl/afdelingen/epstein-barr-virus/). Dr. Middeldorp has a biochemistry and transplantation infectious disease background (PhD 1985). He specialized in molecular virology-immunology with the aim of understanding virus-driven diseases and developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Following a 15 year carrier in diagnostic industry, he founded a spin-off company (www.cyto-barr.com) in 2000 and returned to academics to further explore the molecular basis of multiple EBV-linked diseases and associated diagnostic applications, with a special focus on EBV-driven cancers. He is (co-)author on >200 peer-reviewed publications and (co-) inventor on 8 patent families.
