Jose Alvarez's Biography

Jose Alvarez, Staff Scientist, Center for Biological Investigation

Ignacio Casal got his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Immunology in the Centro de Biología Molecular (CSIC-UAM). Then, he did his post-doc at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Back to Spain, his work was related to the production of diagnostics and vaccines for viral diseases. In 2001, he joined the CNIO as Director of the Biotechnology Programme and Head of the Protein Technology Unit. More recently, in 2007, he got a position of senior investigator at the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas from the CSIC, where he is the Head of the Functional Proteomics Laboratory. His current research interest focuses mainly on the search and validation of new biomarkers in colorectal cancer by applying proteomic strategies, like 2D-DIGE electrophoresis, quantitative mass spectrometry (SILAC, iTRAQ, etc) and protein microarrays.
