Caroline Dive's Biography

Caroline Dive, Professor, University of Manchester

Caroline Dive trained initially as a Pharmacist at the London School of Pharmacy and a NHS General hospital before, in 1985 undertaking at PhD in Experimental Cancer Therapeutics supervised by Paul Workman in Cambridge. After her PhD  she took up a New Blood Lectureship in Toxicology at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Aston University, Birmingham to set up her own group working on the regulation of Drug Induced Apoptosis (1985-1988), She also undertook two sabbatical in the US in Los Alamost New Mexico, and Pittsburgh, PS, before moving to continue studying apoptosis at The School for Biological Sciences, Manchester University, first as a Cancer Research Campaign Fellow and then as a Lister Institute Fellow. In 1997 she was awarded the British Association of Cancer Research Young Scientist of the Year. In 2001 she became Division Chairman of Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology before a move to the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research in 2003 where she continues to work as the leader of the Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology Group. Her group now focuses on pharmacodynamic biomarker discovery, validation and clinical implementation working in tandem with the Early Clinical Trials Unit at the adjacent Christie Hospital, Currently the group is developing biomarkers of tumour cell death and working with her clinical colleagues on several apoptosis targeted novel agents entering Phase I Clinical Trial.
