Sabine Kasimir-Bauer's Biography

Sabine Kasimir-Bauer, Associate Professor, University of Duisburg Essen

Main research field is the detection and characterization of disseminated tumor cells (DTC) and circulating tumor cells (CTC) in gynaecological cancers. This includes the predictive value of CTC for monitoring breast cancer related therapies, the prognostic value of CTC in primary breast cancer, their comparison with DTC as well as stem cell properties of these cells. Expression profiles of CTC are compared with those of the primary tumor to determine whether HER2-targeted and endocrine therapy will be effective in eliminating minimal residual disease. Furthermore, the influence of bisphosphonates on DTC and CTC is under evaluation in ongoing clinical trials.
