Janos Kriston-Vizi's Biography

Janos Kriston-Vizi, Investigator Scientist, University College London

Janos Kriston-Vizi synthesized natural scientific disciplines of his curriculum such as cellular and molecular biology with applied image processing and statistics. As a result, biological image processing and statistical analysis became the two common underlying threads in his research career which connect his two research interests: high-content cellular screening data processing pipeline development and automated microscopic image processing often using live, time-lapse or 3D data. After his post-doctoral work at Kyoto University in Japan and A-STAR Bioinformatics Institute in Singapore, he joined Robin Ketteler’s lab at the Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology, Medical Research Council in London. Janos established the Bioinformatics Image Core in 2012, that facilitates image analysis, quantitation and statistical data processing methods for analyzing large data sets.

We developed 3D and 2D cellular high-content screens in order to identify potent kinase inhibitor compounds that regulate autophagy. I discuss our results, where a diverse kinase inhibitor compound library was screened against our A549 LC3-eGFP-mCherry lung cancer cell line.
