Ronald Frank received his PhD in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry and Microbiology in 1979 from the University of Hamburg. In 1980, he moved to the German Centre for Biotechnology (GBF), renamed to Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in 2005, where he worked on chemical gene synthesis, pioneered combinatorial chemical synthesis of nucleic acids and peptides, and established the HTS facility of the centre. He founded AIMS Scientific Products GmbH in 1998 and served as co-CEO for the company. Since 2010 he has a co-affiliation with the FMP in Berlin-Buch where he heads the research group on Chemical Systems Biology and coordinates the European research infrastructure initiative EU-OPENSCREEN.
