Dr Debprasad Chattopadhyay presently working as Scientist G & Director at the ICMR-National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Belagavi Karnataka. His research field includes Molecular Ethnomedicine. He has established personal contact with diverse ethnic communities including Onge, Nicobarese, Shompen, Birhore, Kattabhai, Santal etc to study their age-old health care practices. Dr Chattopadhyay is credited with seven patents, three leads and 106 research papers in prestigious reputed peer reviewed Journals including Review, Chapters and Editor of Books. He is the Reviewer, Editorial Board Member, Examiner, PhD Guide, visiting Faculty of several Universities, and is the recipient of several awards including Outstanding Ethnopharmacologist Award, DST Science Communicator Award, Dr RV Rajam Endowment Award, ISC Award etc. Dr Chattopadhyay is the Fellow of British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, completed several National Task Force Projects on Ethnomedicines of marginalized communities of India and is the Member of Review and Approval Committee of different Funding Agencies.
