Rodrigo de Souza,
Associate Professor,
Federal University of Rio De Janeiro
Since I started my independent career I have pursued the development of new technologies in order to guide research by innovative ideas, which could be applied in industry. Over these years, I have published more then 160 articles, including reviews, original articles and perspectives, trying to establish our research line nationally and internationally. Our group has established continuous-flow technology for active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) synthesis in Brazil, showing that is possible to reduce costs on production allowing the reduction of the final price of the medicine. I have been recognized as CNPq fellow (Level 2) since I started at the University being also honored to receive for two consecutive times the Young Scientist Fellowship from the Rio de Janeiro Research State Foundation. A few years ago I received the Hanz Vietler prize for young scientist given by the Brazilian Chemical Society and also more recently the Innovation Prize in Industry, given by the Brazilian Association of Chemistry for a joint collaboration between our group and industry. Also, as a result from our international collaborations I was grated with the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for experienced researchers, which among other things, allowed 3 students from our group to take part of their research in one of the best laboratories in Germany.
