Ruth Mackay,
Lecturer,
Brunel University
Ruth graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dundee in 2007. She worked as a research assistant developing simple disinfection methods for surgical implants. She gained her PhD from the University of Dundee in 2011 for the development of polymer micro-grippers with an integrated force sensor for biological manipulation. In 2011 Ruth began work at Brunel University developing point of care diagnostic tests as part of the esti2 consortium. This interdisciplinary group is developing a point of care testing device for diagnosis of infectious and genetic diseases using lab-on-a-chip technologies. Ruth’s main research interest is in BioMEMS (Biological Microelectromechanical Systems), microfluidics, low cost diagnostics and tissue engineering.
