Antoni Homs, Senior Researcher, Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2)

With a multidisciplinary profile in different areas of science and technology, Antoni has been working, for the last 18 years on research oriented to biomedical engineering and on micro and nano technologies -based innovation, as well as in BioMEMS and Lab-on-a-Chip devices. He graduated from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC, ES) in Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering, back in 1999. Later, he received the degrees of Master in Biomedicine, from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB, Barcelona, ES), and Master in Nanomaterials, from the Imperial College (London, UK). He was awarded his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the UPC in 2005. He also holds an MBA for international executives (GEMBA) by IESE since 2013. During his career he has worked in both private industry and public research, holding positions in several institutions across the globe. Currently he holds professorship at the UB and is contracted as a S.O. senior scientist at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2, ES). His previous experience includes more than six years as a senior scientist responsible for lab-on-a-chip research at the Nanobioengineering Group of the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC, ES), three years as project leader and member of the technical decisions-making board in the technological Italian spin-off Silicon Biosystems Spa, acquired in 2013 by the Menarini pharmaceutical group, and five years at the Biomedical Engineering Research Center (CREB) of the UPC (ES). Antoni has hold also shorter stays at the Imperial College of London (UK), supported by an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC, UK) grant, at the National Center in Microelectronics of Barcelona (CNM, ES), of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC, ES), and at the Japanese multinational Asahi Kasei Corporation (JP). He is co-author of numerous works on internationally renowned indexed scientific journals and conferences, and has directed several master thesis and doctorates in his areas of expertise.
