Patrick Tabeling's Biography



Patrick Tabeling, Professor, ESPCI Paris Tech

Dr. Patrick Tabeling is Director of Research CNRS, ESPCI Professor, and director of the Institut Pierre-Gilles de Gennes. Since 2001, he is leader of the group MMN (MEMS Microfluidics and Nanostructures) Composed of 20 Researchers (Permanent, PhDs and Postdoctoral students). He occupied various positions in different laboratories: Visiting researcher in Chicago University (1984-1985), Loaded / CNRS Research Director in the Department of Physics in ENS (1985- 2001), visiting professor to UCLA, now Research Director / Professor at ESPCI. He was professor lecturer at the Ecole Polytechnique (1996-2008) He is the author of 200 papers (120 in refereed journals), 9 patents (4500 citations, h factor 40) 75 Invited talks in international conferences; he is editor of Physical divisional Review Letters, Associate Editor of Physics of Fluids and Biomicrofluidics, guest SARC and editor of PNAS. He is member of Academia Europaea, and recipient of Was Slichting Award in 1995. He published the book Entitled "An introduction to microfluidics "(Oxford University Press - Being a French Version edited by Belin) in 2005. Since 2011 he is the director of the Institute Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, a new research institution dedicated to microfluidics and its applications.

The quantitative analysis of gene expression at the single-cell level is performed with microdroplet-based microfluidic technology. We measure the messenger RNA from total RNA and cells, in configurations suitable for achieving high throughput conditions.
