Jim Sirkis's Biography



Jim Sirkis, Chief Technology Officer, IDEX Health & Science

Jim Sirkis has been engaged in technology and product development for more than three decades. He began his career as a Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, focusing on photonic and fiber optic methods of thermomechanical measurements. In 2000, Jim joined CiDRA where he served as Vice President of Network and Instrumentation Products. He was then a part of a team that spun out CyVera, serving as Vice President of Product Development. CyVera developed a genetic bioassay platform, and was ultimately acquired by Illumina. After serving as Vice President of Product Development for the CyVera Division of Illumina, Jim became founder and President of CiDRA Precision Services, a company focused on developing microfluidic devices for life sciences markets. After CiDRA Precision Services was acquired by IDEX Health and Science (IH&S), Jim became the Chief Technology with technology responsibility across all IH&S business units. An avid Gator, Jim earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the University of Florida. Jim has authored numerous publications and patents spanning optics, mechanics, devices and instrumentation.

Complexity, manufacturability and cost converge in applications that require sample-to-answer solutions.  Dr. Jim Sirkis, CTO of IDEX Health & Science, will present on the critical factors and focus affecting complex microfluidic consumables.  Dr. Sirkis oversees global technology development for IDEX Health & Science, including the recent integration of thinXXS Microtechnology.   Combined together, IH&S now offers the largest and most comprehensive microfluidics portfolio optimizing the Optofluidic pathway. Dr. Sirkis will review the interdependencies between low cost precision molding, reagent management, fluid handling, assay detection and the importance of informed, systems-based decision making when designing a successful consumable platform.
