Salvatore Marras,

Dr. Marras has an undergraduate degree in biotechnology, and received his doctoral degree from the University of Leiden in The Netherlands. His dissertation research focused on the development of molecular beacon probes for the detection of nucleic acids. He is the author of numerous publications that describe the properties and applications of fluorescent hybridization probes. He also serves as a consultant to biotechnology companies on the design of novel fluorophores, nonfluorescent quenchers, real-time nucleic acid amplification assays, and spectrofluorometric thermal cyclers.
