Patrick Descombes's Biography

Patrick Descombes, Head, Nestle Institute of Health Sciences

Molecular biologist by training, I have obtained my PhD in 1993 at the University of Geneva. I have set up and managed a Genomics Core facility from 2001 to 2011 in the academic environment. In 2011, I have joined the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS http://www.nestleinstitutehealthsciences.com/Pages/default.aspx) as Head of Functional Genomics Core. The Genomics Core is providing to the Institute a support in the cutting-edge genomics technologies such as Next Generation Sequencing, microarrays, real-time PCR and nanoString nCounter. Numerous complementary areas of applications are covered: e.g. transcriptomics, genotyping, DNA resequencing, miRNA, ChIP, epigenetics. Our work will include advice in experimental design, realization of the experiments and data analysis.
The NIHS will focus on biomedical research to better understand chronic human diseases and ageing as influenced by metabolism, genetics and environment.
