Kalim Mir's Biography

Kalim Mir, Visiting Scholar, University of Oxford

Dr Mir heads the Nanogenomics group at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (WTCHG). The group applies advanced single molecule and nanotech approaches to important problems genomics and biology. Dr Mir obtained his undergraduate degree at Queen Mary College London. This was followed by a spell at Genetics Institute Inc, in Cambridge Massachusetts. He then returned to the UK to work under Ed Southern at Oxford University from where he received his D. Phil in 1995. Dr Mir was then awarded the Toshiba Fellowship to work at Toshiba’s Advanced Research Laboratory, Japan where he undertook interdisciplinary research and gained training in nanotechnology. Dr Mir obtained a Wellcome Trust Fellowship in 2002 to begin an independent research group at the WTCHG. Dr Mir’s group has received funding from the Wellcome Trust, BBSRC, Royal Society and the European Union. Dr Mir currently coordinates work on Single Molecule Sequencing in a large EU consortium, READNA.
