David Hitrys's Biography

David Hitrys, Commercial Leader, Single-Cell Isolation, Molecular Machines and Industries (MMI)

David entered the field of microscopy over 25 years ago when he licensed an image processing algorithm from the lab of Fredric Fay of University of Massachusetts Medical School and commercialized it into a new type of life-science microscope. His career includes Andor Technology where he developed operations for a new Systems group centered on confocal microscopes, photoactivation and photo-ablation systems. David worked with the Life Sciences division of GE Healthcare at the Cell Imaging & Analysis group emphasizing research microscopy including super-resolution and high-content screening.

David graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with degrees in Biological Science and Business Administration and received his MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Isolation of single cells is an essential pre-requisite for many research projects in pathology, oncology or forensics. Discussed is the development of the novel “Shake Mode” feature of the robotic-capillary system called CellEctor from MMI enabling efficient and gentle uptake of living adherent cells for many kinds of downstream analysis as well as for further cultivation.
