Paul Holland's Biography



Paul Holland, Lecturer, Swansea University

Dr Paul M Holland is currently a Lecturer and HEFCW sponsored Research Fellow within the College of Engineering at Swansea University. Dr Holland started his career within the UK semiconductor industry where he held senior positions within process and device engineering groups. He was the lead R&D photolithography engineer for the development of the 0.35µm CMOS process at ESM Ltd and also managed a group of 15 engineers. A silicon technologist, Dr Holland is collaborating with nanotechnologists, biologists and medical scientists at Swansea University and is now funded by EPRSC to develop a new Lab-On-A-Chip technology platform.

We demonstrate a new silicon CMOS compatible Lab-On-A-Chip technology platform with optically transparent windows through the silicon wafer. This platform will facilitate single cell sorting and biological investigation using advanced analytical techniques such as AFM and epi-fluorescence microscopy.
