Timo Faltus's Biography



Timo Faltus, Research Associate, Martin-Luther-University

Timo Faltus studied Biology and Law at the University of Frankfurt am Main/Germany and is now a fellow of the Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine (TRM) at the University of Leipzig, Germany and a research associate at the law school of the University of Halle- Wittenberg, Germany. Timo Faltus current work focuses on how to advance European and German stem cell and tissue engineering law as well as reproductive medicine and pharmaceutical law. He is involved in several networks of scientific and regulatory experts in the field of regenerative medicine to develop a reliable regulatory framework for this research area and has recently published a textbook on stem cell law in Germany.

The presentation explains the legal framework for running a biobank in the European Union in general and especially under German law. Therefore, the presentation will give an overview of European Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products Regulation (ATMP Regulation) and the European Tissue Directive in the field of biobanking. Additionally, the presentation describes the legal requirement for international and transnational cooperation in the biobanking field. Finally, the presentation will highlight the pitfalls regarding the range of the informed consent in biobanking.
