Polona Žnidaršic Plazl's Biography



Polona Žnidaršic Plazl, Professor, University of Ljubljana

Prof. Dr. Polona Žnidaršic Plazl is professor of Biotechnology at University of Ljubljana, where she studied Chemical Engineering, obtained Master degree in Biochemistry, and a PhD in the field of Biochemical Engineering. Among several research experiences at renowned USA and EU institutions, she worked at Oregon State University as a Fulbright scholar. Her main research interests are biotransformations and separations in microfluidic devices. She is also an initiator and a Co-Chair of a conference series Implementation of Microreactor Technology in Biotechnology - IMTB.

Whole-cell biocatalysis and microreactor technology are gaining importance in modern biotechnology. This lecture will highlight a few examples using yeast and bacterial cells for establishing continuous biocatalytic processes in a microflow systems.
