Scott May's Biography

Scott May, Senior Research Advisor, Eli Lilly & Co

Dr. May received his B.S. in chemistry from Hope College in 1993 and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Indiana University in 1998 working in the laboratories of Professor Paul Grieco. He joined the process research group at Eli Lilly as a Senior Organic Chemist in 1998 and his current role is Senior Research Advisor in the Small Molecule Design and Development group. Scott has expertise in the area of synthetic design and process development of new drug candidates extending from pre-clinical to manufacturing. Throughout his career Scott has been a strong advocate for the identification, development and implementation of new technologies. As a result Scott has led the advancement of Lilly’s catalysis and continuous processing programs. Scott has been closely involved in continuous processing at Lilly and played a leading role in developing the continuous chemistry platforms and the "design for flow" strategy. Scott has developed continuous processes that have been run under GMP conditions in development and in manufacturing. He has also developed integrated continuous processes with multiple linked steps and unit operations. Scott has published his research in peer reviewed journals, served as a peer reviewer for several journals, presented lectures at numerous conferences, and organized technical symposia.
