Katharina Hiebler's Biography

Katharina Hiebler, Project Assistant / Researcher, TU Graz

After my bachelor studies Environmental System Sciences (special field chemistry) at the University of Graz, I graduated with a master degree in Chemistry from the University of Graz/Graz University of Technology, focusing on biocatalysis. Currently, I am a Ph.D. candidate and working in the ONE-FLOW project (Horizon 2020 programme, https://one-flow.org/) at the Graz University of Technology. My efforts are devoted to the development of continuous processes for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients using palladium catalysts.

Late-stage precursors of the two active pharmaceutical ingredients valsartan and sacubitril have successfully been synthesized in continuous flow using a multistep setup. The key step of the reaction cascades, Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling, is facilitated by heterogeneous palladium catalysis.
