Ronny M. Schulz is currently independent project leader at the Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine Leipzig (TRM), University of Leipzig. He received his Diploma degree in Chemical Engineering with special focus in Biotechnology from Brandenburg University of Technology (2003) and his PhD in Biochemistry while researching at the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig (2008). Dr. Schulz has over 10 years of experience in the tissue engineering of articular cartilage and the chondrogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. Since 2007 he is principal investigator at the TRM and responsible for the development of a matrix-coupled autologous cartilage replacement therapy for the treatment of focal cartilage defects using mesenchymal stem cells. For this translational project and also for third party funded non-clinical studies on cartilage repair he serves as GLP-study director in large and small animal models. Currently, he is Master Student (MSc) in the extra-occupational Master's (degree) programme on “Clinical Research and Translational Medicine” at the Coordination Centre for Clinical Trials of the University of Leipzig.
