Paul Thomas's Biography



Paul Thomas, Professor, Loughborough University

Prof. C. L. Paul Thomas studied gained a PhD at the Department of Instrumentation and Analytical Science, UMIST, in 1988. He is a past president of the International Society of Ion Mobility Spectrometry, and has served on the editorial boards of the RSC’s Analyst and Springer’s International Journal of Ion mobility Spectrometry. His research has been dedicated to the study of VOC measurement and he is currently the Head of the Department of Chemistry at Loughborough University, UK.

Any individual’s metabolism changes significantly throughout the course of a typical day. How does hunger, stress and digestion affect VOC profiles in human? This presentation describes the research undertaken to characterise such complexity, in the VOC profiles of saliva, skin and breath.
