SELECTBIO Conferences Next-Gen Sequencing

Next-Gen Sequencing

Date: Thursday, 6 June 2013 - Friday, 7 June 2013
Location: Hamburg

Keynote Speakers

Michael Quail

Michael Quail
Team Leader, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute

Overview

Welcome to the Next-Gen Sequencing Automation track of the European Lab Automation congress and exhibition. This year's event will be held in the historic city of Hamburg.

This track will provide a unique opportunity to better understand the molecular basis of the genome and epigenome in the diagnosis, management and treatment of disease.  A considerable acceleration in the development of this approach has led to a shift in numerous fields, notably pharmacogenetics, toxicogenomics and the study of conditions with a strong heritable component.  Despite this progress, the key post-Sanger technologies still require much refinement particularly with regards to effort input and reagent costs.  Our speakers will share computational and experimental strategies to enhance these routinely used platforms, with an emphasis on improving the quality of base cells and accuracy of results as well as reducing cost and time.  Excitingly, the third generation of sequencing technologies will be explored; the use of fluorescence, electrical detection and nanopore technologies will be investigated in the hope of addressing concerns over eliminating the need to amplify molecules prior to detection, yielding a higher throughput and giving researchers more flexibility. We will be joined by leading commercial developers who will display novel bioinformatics tools that enhance multiplexing and will help delegates to improve the quantitative framework of NGS.

Other conference tracks at this event include Chemistry Automation & Liquid Handling, Biobanking: Preparation, Storage & Analysis, Drug Discovery Automation - HCS & Cell Based Assays, Nano and Microfluidics.  Registered delegates will have access to all five meetings ensuring a very cost-effective trip.
