Benjamin Gantenbein, Professor, University of Bern

Benjamin Gantenbein-Ritter is a molecular biologist and holds a double affiliation as an assistant professor at the ARTORG Biomedical Engineering Center and at the Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics (ISTB), both University of Bern, to conduct basic and applied research in the field of the spine motional segment. He and his team focus on intervertebral disc repair using biomaterials as scaffolds, mesenchymal stem cells or a combination thereof.

He started his career in the field of evolutionary biology at the University of Bern, Switzerland, followed by two post-doctoral positions: i) University of Edinburgh at the ICAPB and ii) University of Cambridge at the Genetics Department (both as a Marie Curie fellow). In 2004 he then changed to Orthopedic Research with a 4-year post-doctorate at the AO Research Institute, Davos, Switzerland.
