This presentation will describe the current status of strategies to generate induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from mouse and human somatic cells for patient-specific disease modeling and cell therapeutic applications.

Holm Zaehres, Professor, Max Planck Institute

Holm Zaehres

Holm Zaehres has studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Hamburg Medical School. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. From 2002 – 2006 he worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT - Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, Cambridge, USA and as a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Children's Hospital Boston, Division of Hematology/Oncology. Since 2007 he is a Staff Scientist and Project Leader in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, Münster, Germany.
