Kristin Fabre

Dr. Fabre joined TRISH December 2018 as the Senior Innovation Scientist to lead the Scientific Research Program. She works with the TRISH team, NASA, industry and academia to develop and maintain initiatives in biomedical research for space health. Of great interest will be to identify, test and develop research using human analogue models and implement a radiation countermeasures program for deep space flight. Before joining TRISH, Dr. Fabre was the Microphysiological Systems (MPS) Lead at AstraZeneca and was part of the MPS Center of Excellence, Drug Safety and Metabolism. She worked with several key AZ members and external partners to develop how to best utilize MPS technology for drug development and screening. Other vital tasks included advisory roles in various MPS-relevant consortiums, including the NIH Tissue Chip Consortium and the IQ Consortium. Prior to joining AZ in 2016, she was the Scientific Program Manager for the Microphysiological Systems (or Organs-on-Chips) Initiative at NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). This role included providing oversight on all MPS cooperative agreements, including members from FDA, DARPA, NIH and several academic institutions across the United States in addition to building public-private partnerships. Dr. Fabre received her BS in Biology from the University of Wyoming, followed by her MS and PhD from Colorado State University in Cell and Molecular Biology. Prior to joining NCATS, she was at the NIH National Cancer Institute as a postdoctoral fellow in the Radiation Biology Branch. During her time at the NCI, Dr. Fabre was highly involved with training programs and was Chair of the NCI Fellows and Young Investigators Steering Committee and created the NCI Fellows Outreach Committee.

 

Jennifer Fogarty

Chief Scientist, NASA Human Research Program

Jennifer Fogarty, PhD is the NASA Human Research Program (HRP) Chief Scientist. As HRP Chief Scientist, Fogarty works with the HRP Elements on the development and oversight of the research portfolio addressing the diverse human system risks that need to be characterized and mitigated to enable human exploration of space. This role requires communication and collaboration with current flight Programs, International Partners, as well as developmental spaceflight Programs that will be implementing risk reduction strategies based HRP research and risk mitigation strategies. In addition, Fogarty establishes and maintains relationships and collaborations with external institutions and other government agencies to assess fundamental mechanistic discoveries as well as innovative prevention and treatment strategies. Before taking on this leadership role in the HRP, Jennifer was the Translational Scientist for NASA Space and Clinical Operations Division in the Human Health and Performance Directorate. In this role, she facilitated communication, project development, and Program interactions between the operations and research communities. She identified candidates for the transition to operations process that will reduce risk and resource utilization with overall goal of preserving astronaut health during and after missions. Previously, Jennifer was the Open Collaboration and Innovation Manager responsible for developing and maturing collaborations and applying tools such as technical gap analysis and open innovation to further research, enhance clinical resources, and facilitate technology development.

Dr. Fogarty received a PhD from Texas A&M University System Health Science Center. She is currently on the editorial team for the Fundamentals of Aerospace Medicine 5th edition, regularly lectures on space physiology and human system risk management, and has continued interacting with the research and technology development community through NASA’s Human Health and Performance Center and the Human Research Program.

 

Michael Roberts

Chief Scientific Officer, International Space Station National Laboratory

Michael S. Roberts, PhD is the Chief Scientific Officer of the International Space Station National Laboratory, managed by the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, Inc. (CASIS). Before joining CASIS in 2013, Michael worked as a principal investigator and research group lead in the NASA Advanced Life Support program at the Kennedy Space Center. Prior to arriving at NASA-KSC in 1999, Michael completed an undergraduate degree in biology at Maryville College, a doctorate in microbiology at Wesleyan University and post-doctoral research at the Center for Microbial Ecology at Michigan State University and the RIKEN Institute in Wako-shi, Japan.

 

Danilo Tagle

Director, Office of Special Initiatives, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences at the NIH (NCATS)

Dan Tagle is Director of the Office of Special Initiatives at NCATS where he many coordinates efforts towards development of disruptive technologies in translational research. He obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He was an NIH National Research Service Award postdoctoral fellow in Human Genetics at the University of Michigan. He has served on numerous committees, advisory boards, and editorial boards. He has authored many scientific publications and has garnered numerous awards, including more recently the Roscoe O. Brady Award for Innovation and Accomplishment, and the Henry J. Heimlich Award for Innovative Medicine.
