Koen Raemdonck's Biography



Koen Raemdonck, Professor

Koen Raemdonck obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2009 at Ghent University, Belgium. In 2016, he started as assistant professor at the Ghent Research Group on Nanomedicines where he was promoted to full professor in 2021. He (co-)authored >90 peer reviewed publications and is listed as inventor on 6 (pending) patent applications. Currently, Prof. Raemdonck is a member of the Executive Council of the recently established Controlled Release Society (CRS) BeNeLux and France Local Chapter and group leader within the Cancer Research Institute Ghent (CRIG). The work of Prof. Raemdonck is mainly focused on exploring novel bio-inspired approaches for delivery of macromolecular therapeutics across intra-and extracellular biological barriers. His expertise includes the design and optimization of nanoformulations for RNA therapeutics and the detailed assessment of their behavior both in extracellular fluids and inside cells. To continue his research on intracellular delivery of RNA drugs he was recently awarded a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant.
