Murat Guvendiren's Biography

Murat Guvendiren, Assistant Professor, Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering

Murat Guvendiren, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering with a joint appointment in the Bioengineering Department at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He also holds a courtesy appointment at Rutgers University. Dr. Guvendiren’s research focuses on designing novel polymeric biomaterials for tissue engineering applications and regenerative medicine. In particular, he is interested in spatiotemporal control of hydrogel properties, cell-biomaterial interactions, 3D bioprinting, biofabrication, surface pattering and photopolymerization. Applications of his research include regeneration of bone, cartilage and osteochondral interface as well as engineered in vitro disease models. Prior to NJIT, Dr. Guvendiren was an Assistant Research Professor at Rutgers University, at the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials. He did a postdoc in Bioengineering and Materials Science and Engineering Departments at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University.
