Dr. Badrul Yahaya (Ph.D.), Is a Senior Lecturer/Principal Investigator, and the Head of the Regenerative Medicine Cluster of Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia. Dr Yahaya obtained his BSc (with Hons) degree in Genetics from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (2002), MSc in Human Genetics from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (2006). Dr. Yahaya was awarded a fellowship of Academic Staff Training Scheme (ASTS) from the Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Malaysian Government to pursue his MSc and Ph.D. degrees. For his PhD, Dr. Yahaya received his training at the Roslin Institute and Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, the University of Edinburgh, Scotland working with the CF Trust Group. In professional bodies, Dr. Yahaya is an active member in various national and international societies. He is currently the Vice President of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society of Malaysia (TESMA). Dr. Yahaya’s group interest is in understanding of the mechanisms that underlay lung disease in the context of pre-clinical setting prior to be evaluated in a clinical application. His group has developed a rabbit as an animal model system to focus on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying airway epithelial regeneration and repair. As a principal investigator, Dr. Yahaya has currently received research grants from various funding bodies such as the Universiti Sains Malaysia (Short Term and Research University Grant Schemes), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) of Malaysia (E-Science Fund), the National Institute of Health/Ministry of Health (NIH/MOH), Malaysia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia (the Transdisciplinary Research Grant Scheme (TRGS) and the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS)) to work on various aspect of respiratory researches.
