Zubin Master's Biography

Zubin Master, Assistant Professor, Albany Medical College

Dr. Zubin Master is currently an Assistant Professor at the Alden March Bioethics Institute, Albany Medical College and Research Associate at the University of Alberta’s Health Law and Science Policy Group. He holds an undergraduate degree in genetics from York University and a PhD in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Toronto. He completed post-doctoral fellowships in bioethics and health policy at Dalhousie University and the University of British Columbia. Dr. Master also previously held posts as Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, National Institutes of Health and as Affiliate Investigator at the Sprott Centre of Stem Cell Research and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, University of Ottawa. Prior to his return to academia, Dr. Master worked was a Senior Policy Advisor at Health Canada where he was responsible for developing regulations on assisted human reproduction and embryo research and subsequently led the development of the Health Canada Scientific Integrity Framework. Dr. Master’s research interests focus on the ethics and policy of embryo and stem cell research, genethics, the ethics and governance of research involving humans, and the responsible conduct of research. He has published numerous articles on topics including stem cell tourism, translation and commercialization of stem cell research, assisted reproduction, biobanking, informed consent, multi-site variability in research ethics review, hype and public trust, and research integrity issues i.e., authorship, peer review, and conflicts of interest. Dr. Master serves on several governmental and non-governmental committees and journal editorial boards.
