Shantanu Sengupta's Biography

Shantanu Sengupta, Principal Scientist, CSIR- Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology

Dr Shantanu Sengupta, a Scientist at the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi, works in the broad area of Clinical Genomics, epigenomics and Proteomics. He completed his Masters in Organic Chemistry from Jadavpur University and PhD from CSIR -Indian Institute of Chemical Biology. He then did his postdoctoral work from National Institute of Immunolgy, New Delhi and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio, USA. At IGIB, he is working towards understanding the genetic, epigenetic and proteomic basis of cardiovascular diseases with a focus to understand the role of vitamin B12 deficiency in coronary artery disease (CAD). He has shown that in India, CAD is significantly associated with deficiency of vitamin B12. Shantanu has been instrumental in setting up the proteomics facility at IGIB and is currently working towards identifying markers for CAD and other cardiovascular disorders using proteomics as a tool. He is currently the Secretary of the Proteomics Society (India) and an executive committee member of the International Society of Heart Research (Indian Section). He has published several papers in reputed International journals and is an Associate Editor of Journal of Genetics and Academic Editor of PLoS one. He is also the Associate Dean of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). He has received the DBT Biosciences award in 2011 and is a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (NASI).
