Maarten Fauvart's Biography


Maarten Fauvart, R&D Team Leader / Senior Scientist Life Science Technologies, IMEC

Maarten Fauvart obtained a Ph.D. in Bioscience Engineering in 2008 at the University of Leuven, Belgium. During his time as a postdoctoral fellow, he cosupervised 10 Ph.D. students and published over 60 papers in international, peer-reviewed journals. In 2015 he joined imec, a world-leading research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics, nanobiology, and digital technologies. Currently, he is working as R&D Team Leader, focusing on lab-on-chip solutions for molecular biology applications.

We present a mass-producible silicon chip-based system for qPCR detection of group B streptococci in five minutes. The analytical performance of the ultrafast qPCR system matches that of the benchtop assay based on a comparison using over 100 patient samples.
