Samantha Byrnes,
Research Scientist,
Intellectual Ventures Laboratory
Dr. Samantha Byrnes currently leads the Digital Assay Feasibility project at Intellectual Ventures Laboratory in the Center for In Vitro Diagnostics. Sam’s work in digital assays is opening up new paradigms for how laboratory diagnostics work and how they can be translated to point-of-care settings. Her work is critical in driving early ideas through proof-of-principle technology demonstrations across various types of assays including a low-cost digital assay platform for highly sensitive detection of pathogens for common, but complex conditions like sepsis.
She has worked in Nicaragua testing nucleic acid purification and storage prototypes and lived in Bangladesh while helping to develop an assessment framework for a vaccination campaign. She received a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and an MPH in Global Health Metrics at the University of Washington, Seattle.
