Rachel Errington,
Senior Research Scientist,
Cardiff University
Dr Rachel J Errington is currently a Reader in BioMolecular Imaging and Systems Cytometry at Cardiff University. She is also director of research at Biostatus Ltd, a UK biotechnology developing novel fluorescent probes for cell labelling and tracking. RJE received her DPhil from the University of Oxford; studying the interaction and movement of cells during wound closure. Single cell-based measurement, analysis and basic technology development has laid firmly at the heart of her research emphasis. At Cardiff she leads a multi-disciplinary programme focused on the development of biophotonic tools applied to the area of cancer systems biology. Current projects focus on developing targeted nano-switches enabling photonic control of molecular pathways; and nano-tags for tracking tumour cell lineage progression quantitatively. The challenge is to understand how integrative cytometry approaches enable cellular readouts from data to be converted to numbers to derive predictive models of a tumour population under sequential perturbed environments.
