S S Marwaha, Chief Executive Officer, Punjab Biotechnology Incubator

Dr. S.S. Marwaha, a doctorate in Microbiology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in 1981 and currently as Chief Executive Officer, heading Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI), A State Govt. Undertaking and an important component of Cluster of Agri Food Biotechnology being developed in the Knowledge City, SAS Nagar (Mohali) by Govt. of Punjab. He has served as Director (Biotechnology) with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology from 1997 to 2006 and Professor & Chairman, Department of Biotechnology, Punjabi University, Patiala from 1991-97. Recently, the Central University, Bathinda has inducted him on the faculty of Biosciences as Visiting Professor. Eternal University, Himachal Pradesh is using the services of Dr. S.S. Marwaha as Adjunct Professor of Applied Sciences.
Dr. Marwaha visited Canada as a member of four member delegation to explore the possibilities of participation of National Research Council (NRC), Canada and Agriculture & Agri Food, Canada, the two organizations responsible for developing and operating Biotechnology Parks at Saskatoon and Quabec, for the development of Cluster of Agri Food Biotechnology being developed in Knowledge City at SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab. He is the member of Joint Management Committee constituted by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India (GOI) for setting up of the Cluster of Agri Food Biotechnology in Knowledge City, Mohali.
Dr. Marwaha has completed many research projects for the scale up of laboratory developed processes to technologies for transfer to field and industries. He has published 10 books in the area of application of Biotechnology in Agriculture and Food Processing as well as Biotechnology application for Environment Management. His book on “Biotechnology in Agriculture and Food Processing: Opportunities and Challenges” by Taylor & Francis Group - a component of CRC Publishing house has been released in July 2013.
He has been a member of number of Govt. Committees and also worked on the Board of Directors of number of National Biotech / Life Sciences Industries. Dr. Marwaha was member of State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) constituted by the Ministry of Environment & Forest, Govt. of India for two terms of three years duration till Nov. 2013, member of the Scientific Panel on Genetically modified organisms and foods for three years till 2013 and thereafter nominated as member of the Scientific Panel on Methods of Analysis for three years upto 2016 of Food Safety & Standards Authority (FSSAI), Govt. of India and member of the Board of Directors of Export Inspection Council (EIC) of India. Dr. Marwaha is also a member of Scientific Advisory Committee in the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Arunachal Pardesh. In addition he has been appointed by Govt. of Arunachal Pardesh as Consultant to AP Stat Council for Science & Technology.
As a recognition to his professional contribution, he has been conferred with State Award by Govt. of Punjab in year 2003 for promoting Science & Technology. In recognition to his outstanding contribution of in Agriculture Research and Development, Punjab Agricultural University has issued a Certificate of Appreciation during the concluding ceremony of the Golden Jubilee Celebration year to Dr. S.S. Marwaha. Dr. Marwaha is also a Commonwealth Fellow in 1982-83 at University of Birmingham, UK to persue his research activities.
