Akhilesh Verma's Biography



Akhilesh Verma, Professor, University of Delhi

Professor Akhilesh Kumar Verma is an academician and researcher of international recognition at the Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi, India. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2000 from the Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi, India. In early 2001, he took up a position as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Florida, where he worked in the Laboratory of Prof. Alan R. Katritzky for two year. During his Ph.D. he has been appointed as a Lecturer at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi. In 2009, he joined the Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi as Associate Professor. He has been promoted as full Professor in March 2013 and recently (Jan. 2015) he has been appointed as professor of Chemistry in the School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is recipient of prestigious BOYSCAST fellowship by DST in 2007, during this period he has done research work in the Laboratory of Prof. Richard C. Larock at Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Iowa, USA. He is also a recipient of A. S. R. Anjaneyulu 60th Birthday Commemoration Award for the year 2012 by Indian Chemical Society. He has published more than 70 publications in high repute of international journal. He received a Certificate of Appreciation as Best Thesis Adviser from Eli Lilly and Company, USA for the year 20134. He is a co-author of prestigious reference book “Comprehensive Organic Transformation (III)” edited by Richard C. Larock. He has supervised 17 Ph.D students and more than 50 M. Sc. students.
His research areas are includes: i. Alkyne Chemistry (Electrophilic cyclization, [3+2] annulation); ii Design of ligands for coupling reaction; iii Synthesis of fused heterocyclic systems of biological importance by tandem/cascade reaction.
